Overview

Design In The Browser is a desktop application. Your projects, code, and files stay on your machine. We do not require accounts, logins, or any personal information to use the app.

Data that stays on your device

All of the following is stored locally on your computer and is never transmitted to us:

  • Project files, source code, and file paths
  • App settings and project presets (stored in Electron's user data directory)
  • Screenshots taken during annotation (stored in your OS temp folder and automatically cleaned up)
  • Terminal sessions and AI interactions
  • Browser history and cache within the app

Optional analytics (opt-in)

The app includes anonymous analytics via PostHog, hosted on EU servers. This is off by default and only enabled if you explicitly opt in during onboarding or in Settings.

When enabled, we collect:

  • Anonymous crash reports
  • Basic usage events

We do not collect:

  • IP addresses
  • Personal data, names, or emails
  • Project content, source code, or file paths
  • Session recordings or screen captures
  • Cookies (an anonymous ID is stored in localStorage to count unique users)

You can disable analytics at any time from the app's Settings.

Auto-updates

The app checks for updates via GitHub Releases on startup. This sends a standard HTTPS request to GitHub's servers to check for new versions. No personal data is included in these requests.

Website analytics

This website (designinthebrowser.com) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages visited, time on site, and referral source. This data is aggregated and anonymous. You can opt out by using a browser extension or ad blocker.

Third-party services

The app integrates with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI) and code editors that you run locally. These tools have their own privacy policies. Design In The Browser does not send data to these services — they run in your local terminal.

No accounts or payments

Design In The Browser does not require an account, collect payment information, or use any authentication service. The app is free to download and use.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
